Terms of service
These terms cover your use of elect.link. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
What elect.link is
elect.link is a nonpartisan, informational guide to candidates and elections. Candidate pages are assembled automatically from public sources, with a link to the source behind each claim. We do not endorse, oppose or rank any candidate or party, and nothing on the site is a recommendation about how to vote.
Check the information before you rely on it
In this day and age you cannot rely on any single source, and they can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date, even though each claim cites a source. Candidates change their positions, filings are periodic, and election offices update their lists. Please open the sources, and use your state or local election office for anything that matters on Election Day, such as who is on your ballot, how to register, and where and when to vote. Nothing here is legal, voting, financial or professional advice.
Accounts
You can read the site without an account. If you make one, give accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. We may disable an account that breaks these terms or puts the site or other people at risk. You can ask us to close your account at any time.
Claiming a candidate page
You may ask to claim a page only if you are that candidate or are authorized to act for them. We may ask for proof, and we may approve, refuse or revoke a claim. If your claim is approved:
- what you submit (such as your statement, website and photo) must be truthful and must not be unlawful, defamatory or misleading, or infringe anyone's rights;
- you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display it on the site, labeled as coming from the candidate;
- approval is not an endorsement by us, and does not change our right to keep the rest of the page based on the public record.
Using the site
Please do not:
- pretend to be another person or organization, or claim a page that is not yours;
- use the site to mislead voters, harass anyone, or spread spam or malware;
- attack, overload or probe the site, or get around its security, rate limits or access controls;
- collect the site's content in bulk, or copy it wholesale, without asking first.
Ordinary use, quoting with credit, and linking to our pages are welcome.
Content and ownership
The site's design, code and written summaries belong to elect.link or its contributors. Facts, quotations, filings and documents from other sources belong to their original owners, and we link to them and quote only briefly to show where information came from. Candidates' own statements remain theirs. If you believe something on the site infringes your rights, contact us with the page and details and we will look at it promptly.
Corrections and removal requests
We want pages to be accurate. If you find an error, or you are a candidate who wants something corrected, contact us at [email protected] with the page and the source that shows the correct information. We review these requests and correct clear errors.
Links to other sites
Pages link to sources and campaign sites we do not run. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy, privacy practices or availability.
No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted or error-free, and we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, elect.link and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss from relying on the site, from errors or gaps in its information, or from its being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to the site and these terms
We may change, pause or end any part of the site, and we may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state where the site's operator is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in that state have jurisdiction over disputes, except where the law of your home country or state gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
