Background

Zoe Lofgren is a Democratic U.S. Representative for California's 18th Congressional District, having served in Congress since 1995. She earned a B.A. in political science from Stanford University in 1970 and a J.D., cum laude, from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1975. Before her congressional career, she worked on Congressman Don Edwards' staff (1970–1978), practiced immigration law as a partner at Webber & Lofgren (1978–1980), taught immigration law at the University of Santa Clara School of Law (1977–1980), and founded Community Housing Developers, a San Jose nonprofit. 12

Prior to Congress, Lofgren was first elected to the San Jose Evergreen Community College Board in 1979 and then to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in 1980, serving through 1994. 12

In the current Congress, she serves as Ranking Member of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee and as a member of the House Judiciary Committee. She lives in San Jose and has spent her entire life in the Bay Area. 157
