Yvette D. Clarke is the Democratic U.S. Representative for New York's 9th Congressional District, a seat she has held since 2013. She previously represented New York's 11th Congressional District from 2007 to 2013, having first been elected in 2006. 110

Before entering Congress, Clarke served on the New York City Council representing Brooklyn's 40th District from 2001 to 2006. She grew up in Brooklyn's Flatbush neighborhood and continues to reside there. She is a graduate of Oberlin College. 27

Prior to her elected career, Clarke worked as a legislative aide to New York State Senator Velmanette Montgomery, an executive assistant to New York Assemblywoman Barbara Clark, a staff assistant to the New York State Workers' Compensation Board, director of youth programs for the Hospital League/Local 1199 Training and Upgrading Fund, and director of business development for the Bronx Empowerment Zone. 7
