Valerie
P. Foushee

Incumbent Democratic U.S. Representative Valerie P. Foushee seeks reelection in North Carolina's 4th Congressional District in 2026.

Background

Valerie P. Foushee is the Democratic U.S. representative for North Carolina's 4th Congressional District, having served since January 3, 2023. She was born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in political science and African and Afro-American studies. [4, 11, 12]

Before entering elective office, Foushee worked as an administrative officer with the Chapel Hill Police Department from 1987 until her retirement in 2008. She then built an extensive record in local and state government, serving on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education (1997–2004), the Orange County Board of Commissioners (2004–2012), and the North Carolina General Assembly—first in the State House and then the State Senate—from 2013 to 2022. [11, 12]

Foushee is seeking reelection to Congress in the November 2026 general election, running again against a previous opponent in what sources describe as a rematch in North Carolina's 4th District. [7, 8] Her campaign website identifies her policy priorities and solicits support for her reelection bid. 7
