Tom Emmer is the Republican U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, having served in the House since January 2015. 129 He currently holds the position of House Majority Whip in the 119th Congress. 1
Before his congressional career, Emmer served on the Independence City Council (1995–2002), the Delano City Council (2003–2004), and the Minnesota House of Representatives (2004–2010). 1114 He also practiced law in areas including insurance, banking, and equity law, and worked as a radio host. 414
Emmer was born in South Bend, Indiana, and raised in Minnesota. He graduated from St. Thomas Academy in 1979, earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in 1984, and a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 1988. He and his wife live in Delano, Minnesota. 214
