Background

Robert C. "Bobby" Scott has represented Virginia's 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1993, making him one of the longest-serving members of Virginia's congressional delegation. 12) He serves as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and Workforce and is also a member of the Committee on the Budget. 1

Before his congressional career, Scott served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1978 to 1983 and in the Virginia Senate from 1983 to 1993. He practiced law from 1973 to 1991 and founded the Peninsula Legal Aid Center. 1

Scott was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Newport News, Virginia. He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his law degree from Boston College Law School. 116
