Background
"Rick" Edmonds is a Republican Louisiana state senator representing Senate District 6, and a candidate for the U.S. House in Louisiana's 6th Congressional District in the November 3, 2026 general election. He was elected to the Louisiana Senate in 2023 and chairs the Senate Education Committee; prior to that, he served as a Louisiana state representative for District 66. 12
Before entering politics, Edmonds spent more than 40 years in ministry, pastoring churches in Louisiana and Florida, and worked as an education administrator in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and Tampa. He also served as vice president of Louisiana Family Forum. 1
Edmonds holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from East Texas Baptist University and a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, with additional doctoral studies at the seminary and an honorary doctorate. 1
Regarding the 2026 congressional race, Edmonds has stated, "I live in the Sixth District, I serve in the Sixth District, and this is my home." 12
