Background

Patty García is the Democratic nominee for Illinois's 4th Congressional District in the November 3, 2026 election, running for the open seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Jesús "Chuy" García. She was born and raised on Chicago's Southwest Side, growing up in Little Village and Cicero, where she still resides. [2, 15, 13]

García served as chief of staff to Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García beginning in February 2023, and previously as district director starting in January 2019. Before joining the congressman's office, she was vice president of programs and operations at the Latino Center for Leadership Development and deputy director of constituency services at the NALEO Educational Fund, where she trained Latino policymakers and led civic-engagement projects. [12, 22, 15]

García holds a doctorate in Educational Policy Studies with a concentration in Latina/o Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2011), as well as a master's degree in Educational Policy Studies and two bachelor's degrees—in Political Science and Speech Communication—from the same institution. [12, 1]

The FEC classifies her race as an open seat. CBS News identified her as the Democratic nominee following the March 2026 primary. She has received endorsements from organizations including CHC BOLD PAC and Our Revolution. [6, 3, 19, 13]
