Mike
Rogers

Former House Intelligence Committee chairman Mike Rogers is the 2026 Republican candidate for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat.

Background

Mike Rogers is a Republican politician from Livingston County, Michigan, who grew up in Howell and Brighton. He graduated from Adrian College in 1985 with a degree in sociology and criminal justice, served in the U.S. Army from 1985 to 1989, and worked as an FBI agent from 1989 to 1994. 123

Rogers was elected to the Michigan State Senate in 1995, serving as majority floor leader from 1999 to 2000, before winning election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000. He served seven terms in the House (2001–2015), including as chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence during the 112th and 113th Congresses. 2

After leaving Congress in January 2015, Rogers did not hold elected office. In 2026 he entered the race for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat, made available by the retirement of Democratic Senator Gary Peters. Rogers is the Republican candidate in the November 3, 2026 election and is backed by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. 4512

In October 2026, Rogers attracted national attention when he broke with President Trump over tariffs on Canada, calling for an end to the trade war and drawing both criticism from MAGA supporters and coverage as a notable departure from Republican orthodoxy in the competitive Michigan race. 91617
