Diaz-Balart

Republican incumbent Mario Diaz-Balart seeks reelection to Florida's 26th Congressional District in 2026.

Background

Mario Diaz-Balart is a Republican U.S. Representative serving Florida's 26th Congressional District, currently in his 12th term in the House. He was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and currently resides in Miami. He graduated from Miami Shores Preparatory High School in 1979 and attended the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he studied political science; sources describe his attendance but do not confirm a degree was awarded. 127

Before entering federal office, Diaz-Balart worked as an administrative assistant to the Mayor of Miami from 1985 to 1988, and later as a marketing executive and president of Gordon Diaz-Balart and Partners, a public relations and marketing firm. 7 He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1988 to 1992 and again from 2000 to 2002, and in the Florida Senate from 1992 to 2000. 2

First elected to the U.S. House in 2002, Diaz-Balart has represented South Florida continuously since then and is seeking reelection in 2026 in the district he currently holds. The Florida Division of Elections lists him as the Republican incumbent and a qualified candidate for the November 2026 general election. 1314
