Background
Lauren Pinkston is an independent candidate for governor of Tennessee in the November 3, 2026 general election, running what her campaign describes as her first campaign for public office. 5 She grew up in west Tennessee and currently lives in Columbia, in Maury County, having returned there with her family in 2019. 25
Pinkston holds a PhD in International Family and Community Studies from Clemson University (2019), a master's certificate from Clemson's Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life (2015), and a BA from Freed-Hardeman University (2009). 2 Her campaign biography describes a career spanning anti-trafficking work, nonprofit leadership, and academic instruction, including a doctoral research internship with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Laos (2015), founding businesses employing trafficking survivors in Southeast Asia (2015–2019), and serving as Assistant Professor of Business as Mission at Lipscomb University (2019–2023). 2
She is listed on the November 3, 2026 Metro Nashville sample ballot as an "Independent Candidate" for governor. 10 Current Governor Bill Lee is term-limited and not seeking reelection. 11 Pinkston has no prior public elected office; the Herald-Citizen noted that the governor's race was her first campaign, though she had been class president in high school. 5
