Background

Larry Marker is a Republican candidate challenging incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján in New Mexico's November 2026 general election. Born in Hobbs, New Mexico in 1963, he was raised in Roswell after his family settled there in 1972, and the Albuquerque Journal lists Roswell as his current city of residence. [4, 5, 14]

Marker's career has spanned oil and gas production, farming, ranching, manufacturing, construction, and service. KRQE quoted him describing himself as "an independent oil and gas producer" who also farms, ranches, and "cowboys some." The Albuquerque Journal lists his occupation as self-employed. [4, 5, 14]

Marker previously ran for the New Mexico State Senate District 27 seat in the 2024 Republican primary, according to New Mexico Secretary of State records, though no source indicates he has ever held elected office. [12, 18] He is running as a write-in candidate in the 2026 U.S. Senate race. 10

Marker's campaign biography notes he has devoted extensive self-directed study to the Constitution, statutes, and government. His campaign website is larrymarker.com. [1, 14]
