Kenneth
J. Block

Ken Block, independent software entrepreneur from Barrington, RI, is running for governor in 2026 after prior bids in 2010 and 2014.

Background

Kenneth J. Block is a software engineer and businessman from Barrington, Rhode Island, born in West Haven, Connecticut. He came to Rhode Island in 1991 for a consulting contract with GTECH and later became president of Simpatico Software Systems, a firm engaged in software consulting and data mining for private companies and government agencies. 36

Block graduated from Dartmouth College. He has run for governor of Rhode Island before — as the Moderate Party candidate in 2010 and seeking the Republican nomination in 2014 — but has not held elected office. 1)3

In 2026, Block launched a new independent campaign for governor, citing his frustration with government dysfunction in Rhode Island. His campaign received an endorsement from the Forward Party, though he continues to identify as an independent candidate. 47

Block is also known for having investigated voter fraud claims for the Trump campaign. He announced his 2026 gubernatorial bid on April 2, 2026, and positioned himself as a fiscal accountability-focused alternative to the major-party candidates ahead of the November 3, 2026 election. 368
