Hobbs

Katie Hobbs is the incumbent Democratic Governor of Arizona, seeking re-election in November 2026.

Background

Katie Hobbs is the incumbent Governor of Arizona, having taken office in January 2023 as the state's first Democratic governor in over a decade. She is seeking re-election in the November 3, 2026 general election and is listed as the Democratic candidate in the Arizona Clean Elections Commission's 2026 voter guide. 4

Before becoming governor, Hobbs served four terms in the Arizona state legislature — first in the Arizona House of Representatives (2011–2013) and then in the Arizona Senate (2013–2019), where she served as Senate Minority Leader for two terms. She subsequently served as Arizona's 21st Secretary of State from 2019 to 2023, having been elected to that office in 2018. 1511

Prior to her political career, Hobbs worked as a professional social worker beginning in 1992, focusing on domestic violence, behavioral health, and homelessness. She served at Sojourner Center, a domestic-violence shelter, and was its chief compliance officer. 111

Hobbs was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Northern Arizona University in 1992 and a Master of Social Work from Arizona State University in 1995. 111
