Stratton

Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton is the 2026 Democratic nominee for Illinois's open U.S. Senate seat.

Background

Juliana Stratton is the 48th Lieutenant Governor of Illinois and the 2026 Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Dick Durbin. Born and raised on Chicago's South Side—primarily in the Pill Hill neighborhood—she now lives in Bronzeville. She holds degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and DePaul University College of Law. 110

Before entering electoral politics, Stratton worked in mediation, arbitration, and restorative justice, and held public-sector roles including directing the Cook County Justice Advisory Council and the University of Illinois Chicago's Center for Public Safety and Justice. 15

Stratton served as an Illinois state representative for the 5th District from 2017 to 2019 before being elected lieutenant governor on the ticket with Governor JB Pritzker. She previously served as a parent representative and chair of the Kenwood Academy Local School Council. 19

Stratton won the Democratic primary on March 17, 2026, and faces Republican Don Tracy in the November 3, 2026 general election for the open Illinois U.S. Senate seat. 141518
