Background

Joyce Beatty is a Democratic U.S. Representative for Ohio's 3rd Congressional District, serving continuously since 2013 and currently in the 119th Congress (2025–2027). She was born in Dayton, Ohio, and earned a B.A. from Central State University in 1972 and an M.S. from Wright State University in 1974. 12

Before her election to Congress, Beatty served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1999 to 2008, including as minority leader in 2007–2008. She also worked as executive director of human services for Montgomery County and as a professor at Sinclair Community College. 14

After leaving the Ohio House, Beatty served as senior vice president for outreach and engagement at The Ohio State University from 2008 to 2012, before winning her congressional seat in 2012. 1

Beatty is the incumbent entering the November 2026 general election for Ohio's 3rd Congressional District. 29
