Background

Josh Gottheimer is the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 5th Congressional District, first sworn in on January 3, 2017, and currently serving his fifth term. He was born in Livingston, New Jersey, raised in North Caldwell, and resides in Wyckoff. He holds a B.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania (1997) and a J.D. from Harvard Law School (2004). 1424

Before entering Congress, Gottheimer worked as a speechwriter for President Bill Clinton, served as a senior adviser to the chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and served as a senior counselor to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. He later held roles at Ford Motor Company in strategic communications and at Microsoft as general manager for corporate strategy. 45

Gottheimer is a Democrat and has represented NJ-05 since January 2017. The Federal Election Commission classifies his 2026 candidacy as an incumbent running in New Jersey House District 5. 91011
