Joseph
Lombardo

Joe Lombardo, Republican incumbent Governor of Nevada, is seeking re-election in November 2026 after first winning office in 2022.

Background

Joe Lombardo is the 31st Governor of Nevada, having been elected in 2022 and sworn into office in January 2023. He was born in Japan to a military family and grew up in Las Vegas after his father was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base; he graduated from Rancho High School in North Las Vegas and earned both a bachelor's degree and a Master of Science in Crisis Management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. 12

Before entering elected office, Lombardo served in the U.S. Army and Nevada National Guard, then joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he spent approximately 26 years rising to the rank of assistant sheriff. 1 He was elected Clark County Sheriff in 2014, re-elected in 2018, and served in that role until becoming governor. 1

Lombardo won the 2022 gubernatorial race as the Republican nominee and is seeking a second term in the November 3, 2026 general election, where he faces Democratic challenger Aaron Ford. His 2026 campaign has centered on themes such as contrasting Nevada with California on policy. 71618 As of October 2026, polling showed him leading in the race. 17
