Background

Jon Husted is a Republican U.S. Senator from Ohio, appointed to the seat on January 17, 2025, by Governor Mike DeWine after J.D. Vance vacated it to become vice president. 218 He is running in the November 3, 2026, special election to retain the seat. 1516

Husted was raised in Williams County in northwest Ohio and attended Montpelier High School. He earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Dayton, after which he served as vice president for economic development at the Dayton-Area Chamber of Commerce. 24

He was first elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2000, serving from 2001 to 2009 and rising to Speaker from 2005 to 2009. He subsequently served in the Ohio Senate (2009–2011), as Ohio Secretary of State (2011–2019), and as Ohio Lieutenant Governor (2019–2025). 24
