John
Duresky

Democrat and retired Air Force major John Duresky is running for Washington's 4th Congressional District in 2026.

Background

John Duresky is a Democratic candidate running in Washington's 4th Congressional District in 2026, seeking the open seat vacated by Rep. Dan Newhouse, who is not seeking reelection. 2 Duresky is a retired U.S. Air Force major who served 24 years before retiring, and subsequently worked approximately 13 years in federal civilian service, including roles at U.S. Strategic Command and, most recently, the Department of Energy's Hanford Field Office as a project control officer, a position he left in early 2025. 324

Duresky grew up in Torrington, Wyoming, graduating from Torrington High School in 1986. He earned an associate degree in applied science from the Community College of the Air Force in 1993 and a bachelor's degree in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2001. 16 His first Air Force assignment brought him to Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, and he later settled in West Richland, Washington, in Central Washington. 3

Duresky is a first-time congressional candidate. 24 He has been endorsed by the Washington State Labor Council AFL-CIO and has emphasized issues such as immigration, trade, and economic development in the district. 112 He faces Republican Amanda McKinney in the November 2026 general election. 2
