Jimmy
Panetta

Democratic incumbent U.S. Representative Jimmy Panetta seeks re-election in California's 19th Congressional District in 2026.

Background

Jimmy Panetta is the Democratic U.S. Representative for California's 19th Congressional District, first elected in 2016. He grew up on California's Central Coast and attended Monterey Peninsula College before earning a bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of California, Davis, and a law degree from Santa Clara University. 12

Before entering Congress, Panetta worked as a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office beginning in 1996, then as a deputy district attorney in Monterey County. He also served as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2007. 113

Panetta represents a district on California's Central Coast and is the son of former Secretary of Defense and CIA Director Leon Panetta. He has served in Congress since 2017, initially representing the 20th District before redistricting placed him in the 19th. He is seeking re-election in the November 2026 general election. 27
