Background

Jamie Ager is the Democratic nominee for North Carolina's 11th Congressional District in the November 2026 general election. Born and raised in Fairview, North Carolina, on his family's Hickory Nut Gap Farm, he attended A.C. Reynolds High School before earning degrees in Environmental Studies (with a concentration in sustainable agriculture) and History from Warren Wilson College. He also completed NC State's Agriculture Leadership Development Program from 2004 to 2006. [12, 20]

Ager is the co-founder and CEO of Hickory Nut Gap, a farm-based meat business in Fairview that he and his wife built starting around 2000. His campaign describes him as a farmer and entrepreneur with roughly 25 years of experience in sustainable agriculture and small business. He has not held prior elected office. [3, 12, 19, 22]

Ager won the Democratic primary on March 3, 2026, and was subsequently added to the DCCC's Red to Blue list, a program supporting competitive Democratic challengers. He received endorsements including one from former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. [13, 14, 15]

His campaign has centered on Hurricane Helene recovery, cost of living, and rural economic issues. He faces incumbent Republican Chuck Edwards in the general election. [7, 23]
