G Cunningham

Republican challenger Greg Cunningham, a Marine veteran and retired APD detective, is running for New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District in 2026.

Background

Gregory G. Cunningham is a Republican candidate for U.S. House District 2 in New Mexico, challenging Democratic incumbent Rep. Gabe Vasquez in the November 2026 general election. 71019 Born and raised in Albuquerque's South Valley, he attended Menaul High School and completed two years at the College of Albuquerque. 319

Cunningham served in the Marine Corps as a Recon Marine from approximately 1987 to 1991, then joined the Albuquerque Police Department, where he worked as a detective until 2009. Cunningham ran unsuccessfully for New Mexico House District 29 in both 2022 and 2024, losing both races to Democrat Joy Garratt. 1920 He entered the 2026 congressional race as a Republican primary winner for NM-02, receiving endorsements including one from former Rep. Yvette Herrell and, according to one source, from Donald Trump. 918 The FEC classifies his candidacy as a challenger. 7
