Gary Palmer is a Republican U.S. Representative serving Alabama's 6th Congressional District, a seat he has held since January 2015 after being first elected in 2014. 157

Palmer grew up in Hackleburg, Alabama, and earned a B.S. in Operations Management from the University of Alabama in 1977. After graduating, he worked for two international engineering and construction companies before founding the Alabama Family Alliance, which later became the Alabama Policy Institute. He served as president of that think tank for 24 years prior to his election to Congress. 14
