Background

David Brock Smith is a Republican Oregon state senator representing District 1 (Curry County and parts of Coos and Douglas counties), and the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Oregon's November 3, 2026 general election, challenging Democratic incumbent Jeff Merkley. 114

A third-generation resident of Port Orford in Southwest Oregon, Smith attended Pacific High School, Southwestern Oregon Community College, and Southern Oregon University before working in the culinary industry in the Rogue Valley. He later returned to Port Orford to take over his family's restaurant and lounge, the Port & Starboard. 13

Before his state legislative career, Smith served on the Curry County Board of Commissioners, the Port Orford City Council, and the Port Orford-Langlois School Board. He was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives for District 1 in 2016, serving from 2017, and transitioned to the Oregon Senate in January 2023. 12

Smith launched his U.S. Senate campaign in March 2026 and won the Republican primary in May 2026. His FEC principal campaign committee is registered as "David Brock Smith for Oregon." 41421
