Background
Dave Dawson is a Democratic candidate running for Iowa's 4th Congressional District in the November 2026 general election. The seat is open after incumbent Republican Rep. Randy Feenstra chose to run for governor rather than seek reelection. 9 Dawson was born in Cherokee and raised in Washta, Iowa; he currently resides in Lawton. He earned a B.S. in sociology and psychology from Iowa State University and a J.D. from UCLA School of Law, and graduated valedictorian from Willow Community High School in Quimby. 11
Dawson works as a prosecutor in the Woodbury County Attorney's Office, a position he has held since returning to Iowa in 2002 after spending three years in Chicago's legal sector. 59 He previously served in the Iowa House of Representatives for District 14, elected in 2012 and serving during the 2013–2017 legislative sessions in the 85th and 86th General Assemblies. 11 During that time, he also maintained a private law practice focused on family law and court-appointed attorney work. 8
Dawson won the Democratic primary in Iowa's 4th Congressional District in June 2026 and is running against Republican Chris McGowan in the general election. 1921 His campaign themes include civility, economic growth, and rural investment under the slogan
