Background

Cyndi Munson is the Democratic nominee for governor of Oklahoma in the November 3, 2026 general election. She currently serves as the state representative for House District 85 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, a seat she has held since her election in September 2015. Munson grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma, and now lives in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Lawton Eisenhower High School, earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Central Oklahoma, and a Master of Science in Leadership Education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She also studied nonprofit and voluntary services at Georgetown University. 23

Before entering politics, Munson spent more than a decade in nonprofit work. She worked in various roles at Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma for five years and later served as Development and Community Engagement Coordinator at OK Messages Project, an organization that supported children through shared reading with incarcerated parents. 23

Munson won the Democratic gubernatorial primary in June 2026 and faces Republican nominee Mike Mazzei in the general election. Her campaign priorities include education, taxes, and other state policy issues. 41416
