Republican Oregon state senator challenging Gov. Tina Kotek in November 2026 rematch for governor

Background

Christine Drazan is a Republican politician from rural Clackamas County, Oregon, born in Klamath Falls and raised in Southern Oregon. She earned a communication arts degree from George Fox University in 1993 and worked in Oregon legislative politics as a staffer and chief of staff to House Speaker Mark Simmons, later serving as a lobbyist and political director for the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association and executive director of the Cultural Advocacy Coalition. [2, 3]

Drazan was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives for District 39 in 2019 and served as House Republican Leader from 2019 to 2021. She ran for governor in 2022, losing to Democrat Tina Kotek in a closely contested race. [1, 2]

After returning to the legislature, Drazan currently serves as an Oregon state senator for District 26, representing Canby, a seat she has held since 2025. [11, 16, 22] She won the 2026 Republican primary for governor and is again challenging incumbent Gov. Tina Kotek in the November 3, 2026 general election. [12, 13, 18]

Polling ahead of the 2026 election showed the race extremely competitive, with some surveys showing the contest virtually deadlocked and others suggesting a narrow Kotek lead. Drazan's campaign reported a $1 million contribution from the Republican Governors Association in October 2026. [13, 15, 18]
