Republican nominee Chris McGowan seeks Iowa's 4th Congressional District seat vacated by Rep. Randy Feenstra in 2026.

Background

Chris McGowan is the Republican nominee for Iowa's 4th Congressional District in the November 3, 2026 general election. He is a native of Sioux City, Iowa, and holds a bachelor's degree (double major in Government and Management) from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and a Juris Doctor from Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor, Michigan. 2510

Before entering the congressional race, McGowan served in the Iowa Air National Guard and worked as a Fortune 500 account executive before completing law school. During law school he worked in the Civil and Criminal Divisions of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan. He joined The Siouxland Initiative (TSI) in 2003 and was promoted to president of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and TSI in 2011. 10

McGowan won the Republican primary on June 2, 2026, and faces Democrat Dawson in the general election for the seat vacated by Rep. Randy Feenstra, who held it from 2021 and ran for governor. McGowan has not previously held elected or legislative office. 2346

He has received endorsements including support from prominent Republicans and, per reporting, backing from former President Trump. His campaign emphasizes issues such as trade policy, national security, and support for families, farmers, and small businesses. 1518
