Background

Chris Henry is a union truck driver and longtime labor organizer running as the Oregon Progressive Party and Pacific Green Party candidate for the U.S. Senate seat held by incumbent Jeff Merkley in the November 3, 2026 general election. 12

Henry grew up in Palmdale, California, and moved to Oregon in 1998. Before driving trucks, he worked as an aircraft electrician on the B-1 bomber for Rockwell and as a structural mechanic for McDonnell Douglas, and later as a UAW aircraft mechanic. He helped organize unions at two ready-mix concrete companies and co-chaired the Oregon Green Party in 2004. 2

Henry studied speech communication at Clackamas Community College and pursued communication studies with a minor in civic leadership and an emphasis on conflict resolution at Portland State University; his biography does not indicate he earned a degree. 12

Henry has run for federal and state office several times without winning: U.S. House against David Wu in 2008 and 2010, Oregon Attorney General in 2012, Oregon Governor in 2014, and State Treasurer in 2016. 2
