Background

Carlos A. Gimenez is a Republican U.S. Representative serving Florida's 28th Congressional District. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1954, he immigrated to the United States with his family in 1960 and settled in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood. He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami in 1972, attended Harvard University's Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government in 1993, and earned a B.P.A. from Barry University in 1999. 1/)23

Gimenez began his public service career with the City of Miami Fire Department in 1975, rising to serve as fire-rescue chief from 1991 to 2000, then as Miami city manager from 2000 to 2003. He subsequently served as a Miami-Dade County commissioner from 2005 to 2011 and as Miami-Dade County mayor from 2011 to 2020. 23

Gimenez was first elected to Congress in 2020 and has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since January 3, 2021, initially representing Florida's 26th District and, since 2023, the 28th District. He is seeking re-election to the same seat in the November 3, 2026 general election. 613
