Bill
Hill

Alaska fisherman and former school superintendent Bill Hill runs as an independent for Alaska's at-large U.S. House seat in 2026

Background

Bill Hill is a commercial fisherman, educator, and small-business owner from Naknek, in Bristol Bay, Alaska, running as an independent candidate for Alaska's at-large U.S. House seat in the November 2026 general election. 123 He has been a commercial fisherman since 1977 and owns Bristol Bay Brailer, a business he founded in 2015. Before the campaign he had a career in education spanning roles as teacher, Student Services Director for the Lake and Peninsula School District, principal of Igiugig School, and superintendent of the Bristol Bay School District (2013–2023). 1

Hill grew up in Kokhanok and has lived in Naknek since 2009. He holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a master's in education administration from the University of Phoenix, and earned a superintendent's endorsement from the University of Alaska Anchorage. 1 He previously served on the board of Paug-Vik, his village corporation in Naknek, including a decade as its president, before resigning to run for Congress. 1618

Hill launched his congressional campaign in January 2026, challenging incumbent Republican Rep. Nick Begich III. He describes himself as a lifelong independent and is listed as Nonpartisan on his Alaska state candidate statement and as Independent in Federal Election Commission records. 11118 His campaign has drawn national attention as part of a broader pattern of independent candidates competing for seats Republicans are defending in 2026. 267
