Annie
Andrews

Pediatrician and Democratic nominee challenging for South Carolina's U.S. Senate seat in November 2026

Background

Dr. Annie Andrews is a pediatrician and Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in South Carolina, running in the November 3, 2026 general election against Republican Darline Graham. She grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and lives in Charleston, South Carolina. Her educational background includes a bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton, an M.D. from the University of Cincinnati, and a master's degree in clinical research from the Medical University of South Carolina. [8, 23]

Andrews worked as a pediatrician at MUSC Children's Hospital in Charleston from 2009 to 2023 and later at Children's National Hospital until June 2026, according to reporting by The State. [23, 24] She holds no elected office and has held none previously. In 2022, she was the Democratic nominee for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District but lost the general election to incumbent Nancy Mace. [12, 14]

The Senate seat she is seeking became vacant following the death of Lindsey Graham; Governor Henry McMaster appointed Darline Graham to fill the seat on July 13, 2026. Andrews secured the Democratic nomination and has centered her campaign on healthcare costs and access. [29, 30, 27] Polls in October 2026 described the race as competitive. [32, 37]
