Angie
Nixon

Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon is the 2026 Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Florida's special election.

Background

Angie Nixon is a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives representing District 13, first elected in 2020 and subsequently reelected. She was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, and holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Florida (attended 2002–2007). 16

Before entering elected office, Nixon worked as a community organizer, a legislative aide to state Rep. Mia Jones, and state field director for SEIU. Her campaign describes her as a union organizer, and she also served as executive director of Florida for All. The Florida House lists her occupation as Higher Education Director. 134

In January 2026, Nixon launched a campaign for the U.S. Senate seat in a Florida special election, running as the Democratic nominee. She won the Democratic primary, defeating opponents including a witness from the Trump impeachment proceedings, in what coverage described as a grassroots-driven upset. 3420

Nixon faces Republican nominee and incumbent U.S. Senator Ashley Moody in the 2026 special election. She is not the incumbent senator but currently holds her Florida House District 13 seat. 1416
