Background

Andy Barr (Garland H. Barr IV) is a Republican politician from Lexington, Kentucky, who has represented Kentucky's 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since January 3, 2013, having been elected to the 113th Congress and six succeeding Congresses. 36

Barr graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington in 1992, earned a B.A. in government and philosophy from the University of Virginia in 1996, and received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky in 2001. Before his election to Congress, he worked as a staff member for U.S. Representative Jim Talent from 1996 to 1998, practiced law in the private sector, and served as an instructor at Morehead State University. 135

In 2026, Barr launched a campaign for Kentucky's open U.S. Senate seat, identifying himself as the GOP Senate nominee. His campaign website lists priorities including economic restoration, law enforcement, and national security. 2714
