Background

Alissa J. Ellman is a Democrat running as a challenger for New York's 24th Congressional District in the November 2026 election. She grew up in Houghton, New York, later earned a bachelor's degree in Special Education and Teaching from Niagara University in 2013, and raised her daughters in Lockport, NY.116

Ellman served overseas in the U.S. military, including a deployment to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, and subsequently worked as a teacher.1 She later joined the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she assisted veterans in obtaining benefits until her employment ended amid federal workforce reductions in 2025.114

After leaving the VA, Ellman became involved in local organizing and held community town halls before announcing her congressional campaign.119 She has received an endorsement from the Forward Party.17

The FEC classifies her as a challenger with no prior elected office identified in available sources.9
